Having travelled around in Japan 2 weeks before the J-Carp program began; I’d already experienced a lot of “Japan-ness”. However, I realised that I lacked genuine experiences with Japanese people, especially 2nd Generation, which is why I was glad that I could spend my last week in Japan witnessing, eating and laughing amongst other things with the Japanese 2nd Gen in the Sousei centre in Tokyo. Even within the one week I stayed with them I was struck by their sincerity, discipline and God-centred lifestyle. Within the centre, there are both full-time students and full-time witnessing CARP members and I was surprised at how well they integrated their activities together; always opening and closing the day together and reporting daily activities. It was a great family atmosphere where everybody supported one another. Although you are limited by the language, both witnessing and living with the members provided a valuable experience for me to understand the Japanese Culture of Heart. The more cultures we come to learn and understand, the more we can become the “connecting point” in bringing our own and other cultures together which I believe is one of the things 2nd Gen do best.

Stories
Here you can find a selection of stories and experiences from some of our participants. The project is slightly different each year giving people a chance to participate again, parhaps taking a more supervisory role the next time. But each one of them has a life-changing experience which they will carry with them for many years to come and will encourage them to start projects of their own in their local community.
